LOS ANGELES, California — A Los Angeles police officer has been charged with two counts of felony insurance fraud for allegedly exaggerating an on-duty injury to collect disability benefits while engaging in recreational activities like skydiving.
Christopher Brandon Carnahan, a 43-year-old from Norwalk, is accused of claiming to be temporarily totally disabled after purportedly injuring his left elbow on May 22, 2023, while on duty. Despite this claim, prosecutors allege Carnahan participated in numerous skydives at Skydive Elsinore in Lake Elsinore, California, and worked out at a fitness center, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
“This case is about honesty and accountability,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman. “Claiming to be temporarily totally disabled and collecting disability benefits intended for injured workers while engaging in physically demanding activities like skydiving is a crime.”…
