DJ Quik’s Son Sentenced to 15 Years to Life in 2022 Downey Shooting Case

DJ Quik’s son, David Marvin Blake Jr., was sentenced on Friday, February 27, 2026, to 15 years to life in state prison following his conviction in a 2022 fatal shooting.

In December 2025, Blake Jr. was found guilty of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle in connection to the May 25, 2022 killing of 33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr. in Downey, California. Prosecutors said Blake Jr. fired multiple shots from inside a vehicle during what was described as a “rapidly escalating confrontation” outside the Cardoza family home, fatally wounding the victim.

Although Blake Jr. initially faced a potential sentence of up to 40 years to life, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Laura Walton granted a defense request to strike firearm enhancements that could have added an additional 25 years to his sentence…
