A year after their parents were deported, 3 Southern California sisters navigate life without them

A year after their parents were deported to Colombia, three Orange County sisters said they’re still coping with their new reality and working to get by after their lives were turned upside down.

In March 2025, Nelson Gonzalez, 59, and his wife Gladys Gonzalez, 55, went in for a standard appointment with immigration officials and were detained.

The couple moved from Colombia to the U.S. without documentation 35 years ago before settling down in Laguna Niguel to build a life and raise three daughters…
