Authorities will continue to monitor ocean conditions Friday after a shark sighting prompted a water closure at a Newport Beach shoreline.
Lifeguards were alerted about 1:15 p.m. Thursday to an approximately 8-foot great white shark circling a surfer near the beach at 35th Street, according to Georgia Rios, a spokeswoman for the city.
