Two suspects who were arrested in a deadly pursuit and crash that killed an innocent woman and injured three other people in San Clemente Monday have been identified.
Just before 8 a.m., deputies in San Clemente attempted a traffic stop on a stolen U-Haul, but the driver, now identified as 39-year-old Cerritos resident Matthew Alexander Ronquillo, reportedly refused to comply and attempted to evade deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“It was a pursuit. What initiated it was deputies investigating what they believed to be a suspicious vehicle,” said OCSD Sgt. Gerard McCann. “The vehicle had no license plates. When they tried an attempt to stop that for that violation, that’s when the vehicle fled. The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. It was later determined that it was stolen.”
