Fire crews help rescue baby owl after fall from nest in Huntington Beach

A young great horned owl that fell to the ground in a dangerous area was helped by fire crews in Huntington Beach, officials said Wednesday.

The owl, believed to be about 5 to 6 weeks old, had recently fallen from its nest during a natural stage of development known as “branching.”

Branching occurs when young owls begin exploring nearby branches before they are able to fully fly, the Huntington Beach Fire Department explained in a social media post.

“While this is a normal part of their growth, the owl was found on the ground in an area with regular dog activity, putting it at risk,” the department said…
