School children face bike ban with teens forced to follow ‘sticker’ rule under new policy

CERTAIN school children planning on getting to school by e-bike will have to find alternative transport following a ban.

The crackdown comes after a series of incidents of reckless behavior by young riders on electric-powered vehicles.

Last week, an Orange County teenager was arrested for allegedly hitting a 81-year-old teacher on his e-bike, and fleeing the scene. Police seized more than half a dozen bikes from the school.

Now, Southern California students attending Newport-Mesa Unified School District elementary and middle schools will no longer be allowed to commute to campus on e-bikes from the 2026-27 school year…
