Metal thieves hit historic Orange County club

Police are asking the public for help identifying two suspects accused of stealing a pair of valuable bronze plaques from a historic Santa Ana venue last month.

The Santa Ana Police Department released surveillance video Wednesday showing two people riding bicycles in front of the Ebell Club at 718 N. Mortimer St. on April 30.

According to police, the suspects removed two historic bronze plaques that had been presented to the club by the City of Santa Ana. They then rode away on their bicycles and fled the area.

The Ebell Club is a historic venue dating back to the 1920s and is frequently used for weddings and special events. It originally served as a space for women’s education and philanthropic work at a time when higher education opportunities were less accessible to women, according to the club’s website…
