Symposium on e-bike dangers draws crowd of 200+ to Huntington Beach

More than 200 people gathered on Wednesday in Huntington Beach for a safety symposium to discuss the dangers of E-bikes and E-motorcycles, especially in the hands of teenage drivers.

Parents who lost their children to crashes involving the vehicles spoke at the symposium, as did law enforcement officials who’ve responded to such emergency calls. The goal of the symposium was to share stories, raise awareness of the dangers and to brainstorm how to get the streets safer from E-motorcycles and E-bikes.

“The ones we are seeing out on the roadways – they have pegs on them and they look like dirt bikes, and that’s really what they are,” said Huntington Beach Police Department Sgt. Mike Thomas. “They’re heavy duty, they’re 150-plus pounds.”…
