‘Look twice, save a life’: Alaska motorcycle instructor’s tips on how to avoid a fatal accident

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – For as many years as Bonnie Welsh has been riding motorcycles, and as much skill as she has accumulated in that time, she is well aware of the risk she accepts whenever she rides.

“You can do every single thing right and still not survive an impact,” she observed. “Even with all of that knowledge, somebody could run a red light and there’s just nothing you can do.”

Her words come amidst a summer that has seen several Alaskans lose their lives as a result of motorcycle accidents, most recently including a run-in with a van on the Parks Highway on July 27 and a fatal tangle with a bicycle on the Steese Highway near Fairbanks on July 19 that resulted in the death of Welsh’s family friend…
