ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The man shot in a northeast Anchorage parking lot earlier this month was walking away from police and did not point his gun at officers, according to Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case.
During a press conference at APD headquarters Friday morning, Case gave an updated narrative around the shooting. He said police received a call for service at a northeast Anchorage Walmart on Aug. 13 from an employee around 1:12 p.m. Originally, the information they had was that a man inside the Walmart brandished a gun and loaded it.
Case said the police now know he bought ammo in the store and showed the gun inside, but it is unclear if he loaded it inside.
The man left the store, walking towards DeBarr Road and opened fire in the air, Case said. Responding officer Michael Shamblin arrived at the scene around 1:20 p.m. and gave orders to the man, but these were not recorded because his body cam was not recording audio…
