At the 2026 National Tribal Housing Summit yesterday, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $150 million in Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) awards to more than 30 Native communities for housing.
The Summit, hosted by HUD, took place from Sept. 1-3 in Arlington, VA., and brought together tribal leaders and advocates with federal and state agencies and non-profits to explore policies and strategies around the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA). Enacted in 1996, the Act replaced disparate tribal housing assistance programs with one fixed federal grant.
