Pedestrian killed in Anchorage crash; driver arrested after leaving scene

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A woman died after being hit by a vehicle on a north Anchorage street Thursday morning, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Officers responded to the intersection of East Third Avenue and Orca Street around 8:13 a.m. on reports of a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle. Medics with the Anchorage Fire Department pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said.

The driver, identified by police as Anchorage resident Vaiee Samelu, did not stay at the scene after the crash but was found a short time later, according to APD…
