ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Atka, a moose from Anchorage who spent his life at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado, died Tuesday at the age of six, according to the zoo.
Atka died Tuesday morning after months of medical treatment for complications from having only seven toes, instead of the usual eight for a moose. The 1,300-pound moose had a toe amputated in 2023 to stop progressive bone degradation in his hoof.
