Anchorage sets new record low as dangerous cold sticks around

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage set a new official low temperature for Jan. 31 as the thermometer bottomed out at -18 degrees Fahrenheit late last night. The reading – which occurred shortly after 11 p.m. – beat out the previous record of -17 set back in 1989. While the record low was for the last day of January, temperatures are still bitter cold across the region. Temperatures in Talkeetna this morning came close to bottoming out near -40 degrees, which is the temperature at which Fahrenheit and Celsius are the same. Freezing fog is also evident across Southcentral once again this morning, meaning you’ll need to use caution on the roadways. Remember the speed limit is for ideal driving conditions, which parts of Southcentral aren’t seeing this morning.
