Astronaut, former Elmendorf AFB service member replaces Crew 9 on ISS

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – An astronaut who previously lived in Alaska is part of the replacement team for the SpaceX Crew-9.

Astronaut Nichole Ayers, who previously served in the 90th fighter squadron at Elmendorf Air Force base, is now aboard the International Space Station.

“Behalf of crew 10 we would like to say that today we celebrate the countless individuals all over the world that have made this journey possible. To the engineers, instructors, flight controllers, scientists, and leaders who have worked tirelessly to get us here, thank you for your dedication for the safety and success of this mission,” Ayers said.

Ayers is part of a four-person crew on the NASA SpaceX Crew 10 mission that will be replacing astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who were in space longer than expected…
