Winter makes a comeback in the Interior as Southcentral slides into Spring

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – As March wraps up, active weather is returning to Alaska. After warm and dry conditions across much of the state this month, a series of storms is bringing back snow for communities from Nome to Fairbanks.

Fairbanks picked up just under an inch of snow as of 5 p.m., with more coming. This is the first snowfall they’d seen in more than three weeks. With 1.9″ of snow for the month, this is the 10th least snowy March on record for Fairbanks. It was also the 15th warmest.

Anchorage, on the other hand, saw steady snow with 16.9″ recorded. That was more than double the amount that fell in all of November, December, January and February combined. Despite the snow, we also saw above normal temperatures all but four days this month, ending March as the 7th warmest on record…
