Wildfire mitigation project to start in Anchorage’s Hillside area May 5

A critical wildfire mitigation project is set to begin next week in Anchorage, aiming to reduce fire risks in the Hillside area.

The Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF), in partnership with the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD), will start work on the East-West Connector shaded fuel break on May 5.

The project will create a 200-foot-wide fuel break extending from Hilltop Ski Area Road to Prospect Drive, aimed at protecting both life and property from the threat of wildfires.
