Matautia belts 30th homer, fourth Alaskan to reach milestone in college

Anchorage’s Alapese Matautia wrapped up her college softball career in style Thursday, homering in her final game for Portland State University after the senior shortstop launched a two-run nuke over the center field wall against second-seeded Sacramento State at the Big Sky Championships in Greeley, Colo.

The former Bartlett slugger walked and scored in the fifth inning in her team’s 15-4 loss. PSU lost 7-5 to fourth-seeded Northern Colorado in the first round of the double-elimination tournament. Matautia finished 3-for-5 in the two games with three runs and two RBIs, raising her batting average 29 points.

This was the first home run of the season for the Alaskan, who became the fourth Alaskan to reach the 30-homer career benchmark…
