Federal prosecutors charge man linked to Wasilla teen’s fatal overdose

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A federal grand jury returned an indictment on Tuesday, charging a Wasilla man with distributing carfentanil to two people, one of which was a 16-year-old Wasilla teen, who died of a fatal overdose as a result.

According to court documents, Sean Mobley, 45, provided what appeared to be powdered fentanyl to Alena Toennis in November 2024, as well as another person identified as an adult who is said to have also experienced an overdose but survived after being given Narcan.

In a statement to Alaska’s News Source, Alena’s sister Elyssa Toennis said: “The fact that this case has reached the federal level says a lot about the seriousness of it all. it’s very validating that the system is taking these next steps, it’s about making sure there are real consequences and accountability for people who do harm. What happened to Alena matter, and we don’t want it to be minimized or ignored. I want to see true accountability and justice. I also hope this helps protect others from experiencing the same kind of pain.”…
