First ever Anchorage Navy Week to begin June 16

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The U.S Navy is coming to the Alaska for its inaugural Anchorage Navy Week.

“Navy Week is an opportunity to bring the Navy to areas that generally don’t have a standing Navy presence,” Anchorage Navy Reserve Center Commanding Officer Lt. Cmdr. Jack McGee said. “It’s a great opportunity for the public to see the Navy to learn more about what they do.”

Beginning on June 16, dozens of sailors, representing ships including the USS Alaska and Ted Stevens, will be taking part in events across Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. Though there won’t be any ships in port, sailors will be leading a number of educational events, service projects and Navy Band performances…
