Anchorage youth prepare Juneteenth performance with HBCU band directors

Youth in Anchorage are getting a unique opportunity to celebrate Juneteenth this weekend through the rhythm and energy of a marching band.

For the first time, the Juneteenth Anchorage Marching Band Camp is bringing together local kids with music directors from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country. The camp is more than just a chance to learn music—it’s a chance to experience the culture and camaraderie of marching band life.

In just a few short days, students are not only practicing musical pieces, but also learning about college scholarship audition preparation and gaining insight into the discipline and teamwork involved in collegiate marching bands…
