ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – For the second summer in a row Anchorage’s two public swimming beaches will not have lifeguards on duty because of a persistent lifeguard shortage.
Municipal Aquatics Superintendent Jim Reeves said there simply aren’t enough people applying to the job. Reeves said the city had to make a tough choice between having lifeguards at Jewel Lake and Goose Lake or staffing the popular indoor programs at Dimond and West High Schools.
