First federal hearing for man accused of Wasilla teen’s fatal carfentanil overdose

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The family of a 16-year-old Wasilla teen who fatally overdosed last year were in an Anchorage federal courtroom Tuesday, as the man prosecutors say supplied her with carfentanil pled not guilty to charges related to her death.

Alena Toennis’ family said Tuesday’s hearing was a step in the right direction, as the suspect, Sean Mobley, 45, also faces separate state charges.

“It gives us a better hope that he’ll get stiffer charges, that he will not get out with the feds picking up and the state. I believe that this man doesn’t need to walk free and the community strongly believes that he needs to go down for life,” said Crystal Toennis. “He took my niece’s life, didn’t give her the chance to live a life, so, the best they can do is take his.”…
