Grandson of former Alaska territorial governor dies at 82

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Former Alaska legislator Clark Gruening has died, according to the governor’s office. He was 82.

Born in California but raised in Juneau, Gruening was the grandson of former territorial governor and U.S. Sen. Ernest Gruening, who was serving as Alaska’s territorial governor when Clark was born in 1943.

Clark Gruening was elected as an Anchorage representative in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1975 to 1978. Gruening was one of the key legislators to create the idea of a permanent fund and worked to pass it in 1975…
