Alaska SeaLife Center takes in new harbor seal pups, urges caution around marine mammals

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska SeaLife Center has four new residents after a series of rescues of harbor seal pups throughout the month of June.

The group said Wednesday that efforts from multiple agencies, over the span of 12 days, led to five harbor seal pups being admitted to the Wildlife Response Program. One seal did not make it, while two others are in “poor health,” and another pair is in “critical condition,” according to a prepared statement from the center.

“These cases follow the recent admissions of an orphaned northern sea otter pup, and four previously-admitted harbor seal patients,” the center wrote, “all of whom required intensive rehabilitation and veterinary care.”…
