AROUND ALASKA: Planetarium Construction, Historic Ballpark, and Sitka Celebration!

Fairbanks is getting a new planetarium! Construction has started on a 5,700-square-foot, 65-seat facility at the University of Alaska Museum of the North. The high-tech space will feature an 11-meter dome, dual projectors, and four image-generation computers. It’s set to open in spring 2026.

Fairbanks’ Growden Memorial Ballpark is now a national historic landmark. Built in the 1960s and named for a family lost in the 1964 quake, it’s famous for the Midnight Sun Game and holds a special place in Alaska sports history.
