A schedule for Independence Day weekend in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Looking for things to do this 4th of July weekend? Here’s a look at what’s going on in the different communities across the state this Independence Day:

ANCHORAGE

Eagle River’s July 4 activities begin on Thursday with food, entertainment and games in Eagle River Lions Park, culminating with a firework show at midnight. The city’s parade starts at 11 a.m. in Delaney Park.

More festivities will take place throughout the rest of the day at the Delaney Park Strip, including music, crafts and carnival rides. In addition, the annual Alaska Baseball League Doubleheader will be held at 7 and 10 p.m. at Mulcahy Stadium.

SEWARD

Seward will begin its festivities with a race starting at 12:01 a.m. The city’s famous Mount Marathon race will be held later that day, with the junior race beginning at 9 a.m., the women’s race at 11:05 a.m. and the men’s race at 2:05 p.m.

GIRDWOOD

The Girdwood Forest Fair, which will take place from Friday to Sunday, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Admission is free and the fair will feature handmade crafts, local music and “one of the friendliest” beer gardens in Alaska, according to the Anchorage website.

In addition, the parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. The fair is run solely by volunteers, according to the Girdwood Forest Fair website.

KETCHIKAN

An afternoon parade honoring “Grand Marshals” Delores Churchill and Mary Moran will be held on Friday. The theme of the parade will be “A Wonderland of Opportunity.

The two women were selected by the Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce for their “decades of dedication, leadership and community service,” according to the Ketchikan Arts website. The parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

KODIAK
