ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A report filed by the National Transportation Safety Board earlier this week regarding a 2023 plane crash that killed the husband of former Rep. Mary Peltola, Eugene “Buzzy” Peltola Jr., determined the crash was caused by the plane being overloaded with moose meat and antlers that hung on one side of the small aircraft.
Its findings have since sparked conversation about the inherent dangers of flying in Alaska’s rugged terrain.
“Everything in aviation is a calculated risk,” Goat Mountain Air owner Matt Bethke said, including weather conditions and weight of an aircraft.
