ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Electric companies in Anchorage are getting the word out about what they’re calling an aggressive uptick in fraudulent calls to customers demanding money they don’t actually owe.
Julie Hasquet, the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications with Chugach Electric, said her office has received dozens of calls per day in the last week from members saying they’re being threatened to make immediate payments or they’re power will be turned off.
“If anybody gets a call from someone who says they’re from Chugach Electric and you owe money, you should hang up and call us immediately and we will verify the standing of your account,” Hasquet said. “We never call, demand, threaten money. We’re never sending you to Walmart to get a card to pay us.”…
