23 Days: 7 suspected cases of tuberculosis at Tacoma ICE detention facility housing former Anchorage jail detainees

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Alaska’s Department of Corrections is now facing accusations that Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees were exposed to tuberculosis this summer during their 23-day stay at the Anchorage Correctional Complex.

A DOC spokesperson said in a statement to Alaska’s News Source on July 10 that all 41 ICE detainees were screened for TB when they arrived at the Anchorage jail on June 8, and that none tested positive for active tuberculosis, the form that is contagious.

“Out of an abundance of caution, one individual underwent additional testing due to symptoms; All subsequent tests for active TB came back negative,” the DOC statement said…
