AROUND ALASKA: Squadron Milestone, Bridge Reopens, and Photos Wanted!

Eilson Air Force Base is celebrating a big milestone for one of its squadrons. The 18th Fighter Interceptor Squadron hit its 1,000th day of performing its mission. That mission involves providing aerospace control for homeland defense missions in and around Alaska. At all times, the squadron has pilots and aircraft ready to deploy, so the team works at all times to ensure they can meet any need.

All went according to plan in Juneau. Crews have officially reopened the back loop bridge over the Mendenhall River. The bridge was closed on August 12 after some flooding. Now, the bridge has been secured, and new paving is expected to go down in the coming days.

Pedestrians in Anchorage will need to find a new way across Northern Lights Boulevard near Lois Drive. The pedestrian bridge there has been shut down after safety concerns were discovered during an inspection. There’s no date yet for when it could reopen. Crosswalks at Forest Park Drive and Minnesota Drive are available as alternatives…
