Weather alerts in effect: High winds and heavy rain headed for Southcentral

ANCHORAGE, AK (Alaska’s News Source) – A strong Pacific storm will bring wet and windy conditions across Southcentral Alaska late Wednesday through early Friday.

A high wind warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday for the Anchorage Hillside, where wind gusts to 70 mph are likely. High winds will move into the lower elevations of Anchorage later in the morning, where gusts of 40-55 mph are likely.

Heavy rain will spread across Southcentral overnight, continuing through early Friday. The heaviest rain will be on the eastern Kenai Peninsula, where 3-5 inches is likely, and the Susitna Valley, where 2-4″ is expected. Flood watches are in effect for these areas…
