Anchorage is set to celebrate a milestone in downtown revitalization next week with a special groundbreaking for the Mushers Arch.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, October 3rd, at 2 p.m. at 4th Avenue and D Street, where the new landmark honoring Anchorage’s sled dog heritage will stand. The arch, featuring musher and sled dog silhouettes, will mark the historic starting point of the Iditarod.
“Today we take a big step toward making the Mushers Arch a permanent symbol of Anchorage’s mushing history,” said Jim Huettl, President of Anchorage Mushing District Inc. “This project is about honoring our past and creating a gathering place that future generations will enjoy.”…
