From Africa to Alaska: Jane Goodall’s message of compassion endures

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Jane Goodall, the world-renowned primatologist whose groundbreaking research with chimpanzees transformed modern science, has died at 91, her namesake institute announced Wednesday.

In Alaska, her message of conservation and compassion resonates far beyond her direct research. At the Alaska Zoo, where the staff focuses on Arctic and sub-Arctic species, leaders say Goodall’s influence is felt daily.

“I think anybody in the wildlife or animal world today, when we found out that she had passed away, I think it hit a lot of people pretty hard,” said Rich Capitan, education director at the Alaska Zoo. “She really was a pioneer of wildlife research… she helped science see animals in a much different way than they had previously.”…
