‘Limited resources,’ LaFrance pushes forward a largely flat budget proposal looking into 2026

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The LaFrance administration is moving forward, pushing a similar operational budget from 2025. On Thursday, during a press conference, Mayor Suzanne LaFrance announced plans for a $656.9 million operating budget, $175,000 under the property tax limit. The proposal is slightly higher than the ‘beefy’ $636 million 2025 operational budget that the administration proposed last October.

“Our proposed operating budget is a continuation from 2025 operations with minimal changes. That means we’re remaining largely flat over last year, aside from required increases and adjusting for inflation,” Mayor Suzanne LaFrance announced during a press conference on Thursday. “This budget process has been challenging. The municipality has limited resources, and our community is facing some big financial questions in the future.”

The budget will reflect a similar spending trend to what Anchorage residents saw in 2025. LaFrance is re-establishing, what she said, is her administration’s commitment towards funding snow removal, homelessness resources and public safety…
