ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – On Tuesday morning, Alaska Vietnam era veterans climbed aboard Alaska Airlines Flight 104 for an Honor Flight out of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC).
The group will spend the next few days touring Washington, D.C. and exploring monuments.
“I’m going on a trip of a lifetime,” Howard Appel, US Army Veteran, said. “Not very many people get this opportunity. And the thing that makes it important to me, a couple of my friends can’t make it, and so I’m kind of going for them too.”
Appel was one of two dozen veterans who will be exploring Washington D.C. over the next few days. During his time, his group will visit the WWII, Korean War, Lincoln, Vietnam, Roosevelt, Navy, and Iwo Jima monuments. They will also visit the Arlington National Cemetery…
