Anchorage schools face closure as enrollment drops, crowd protests outside board meeting

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Before the Anchorage School District (ASD) Board Meeting Tuesday, a work session was held to break down the decision-making behind the recommended closure of two ASD schools.

Lake Otis and Fire Lake schools were recommended to the board to be closed by the next school year. Andy Holleman is on the board and explained some of the thinking behind the anticipated closures.

”For quite a few years now, we’ve had a gradual decrease in the number of students enrolled in first grade, and that’s working its way up through the district,” Holleman explained…
