State board pumps brakes on regulation limiting local school support

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska Board of Education has voted not to advance a proposed regulation that could have cost Anchorage schools more than $15 million in local funding next school year, according to ASD.

The regulation sought to change how “local contributions” and in-kind donations to schools are defined – a move some say would have restricted how much money communities could invest in their own schools.

According to ASD, the proposal was originally introduced after the state failed a federal impact Aid Disparity Test due to reporting errors – not because of local funding issues. The district said the fix was unnecessary and could have stripped millions from an already strained budget…
