ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Ringing chords filled St. John’s United Methodist Church on Friday evening, the eve of a concert for “The Midnight Sons” chorus.
While the barbershop group often performs alone, their numbers will be bolstered Saturday evening with an addition of about 40 to 50 young men, hailing from high schools across Anchorage. The group will take the stage at 7 p.m. at Bettye Davis East High School on Saturday with a simple message — “Men Can Sing.”
“They love it,” said organizer Steve Stripling, who is also a member of Midnight Sons. “And the thing is, in barbershop, in a cappella, once you get to about 25 or more people, there’s a special sound that comes out of it. So, some of these guys have been singing with, you know, four and five guys, and now all of a sudden, they’re singing with 40. It’s a fantastic feeling for them. They love it.”…
