Anchorage athlete Carter Brubaker earned our Alaska Athlete of the Week honors after becoming the first Alaskan to win a national title in nordic combined at the U.S. Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined National Championships in Lake Placid, New York.
The former Service High student continued his ground-breaking career by capturing the normal-hill national title Sunday, one day after he became the first Alaskan to make the podium at nationals by grabbing the bronze medal in the large-hill competition.
Brubaker spent last season putting Alaska on the map with a series of historic results. In December he became what is believed to be the first Alaskan to compete in a World Cup nordic combined event.
