ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – One week away from an expected vote by the Anchorage school board, parents and students from Fire Lake elementary school gathered on a chilly street corner in Eagle River, hoping to save their school.
The group of around a dozen people stood along the Old Glenn Highway outside of a Fred Meyer grocery store. Many hoisted signs with messages like “Save Fire Lake” and waved at passing vehicles, some of whom honked in response.
“Fire Lake’s been open nearly 40 years, I want it to keep going,” said Fire Lake Student Ariel Bailey. “And just because there’s not much students doesn’t mean you have to close it.”…
