ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A small but dedicated crowd braved single digit temperatures Tuesday morning to honor veterans in Alaska. The ceremony was put on by the Municipality of Anchorage and took place in front of a World War II memorial at Merrill Field.
“We see your dedication every day and we are incredibly proud to be a military friendly community,” Mayor Suzanne LaFrance said, who also referencing the fact that the federal government shutdown had cancelled Veteran’s Day events on base.
“In times like these, the strength of a community is truly tested,” LaFrance said. “It is our duty as a community to ensure that no government hurdle, no cancellation, and no lapse in appropriations will ever prevent us from fulfilling our promise to honor our veterans.”…
