ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Ice is back in Anchorage, and so is the danger it poses, which is why the Anchorage Fire Department did their annual review and practice of ice rescue techniques this week.
Firefighters and first responders practiced the rescue techniques at University Lake in Anchorage on Wednesday. Those who took part in the rescue brushed up on their rescue techniques, including rope and boat rescues, as well as jumping into the frigid water to pull people out.
“We try to go with everything, kind of a plan A, B, and C,” said AFD Captain Brian Leigh. “Never does one plan usually work out. So we always try to have a backup plan.”…
