Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Kenai Peninsula and Turnagain Pass Ahead of Holiday Travel

The National Weather Service has issued multiple Winter Weather Advisories for large portions of the Kenai Peninsula and Turnagain Pass as a winter system moves through Southcentral Alaska, bringing snow, freezing rain, and hazardous travel conditions during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

The advisories are in effect from Wednesday evening through early Friday morning, with varying impacts depending on location.

Along the Sterling Highway between Cooper Landing and Sterling, including the Skilak Lake and Jean Lake areas, forecasters expect a wintry mix of snow, freezing rain, and rain beginning late Wednesday night. Snow accumulations of up to one inch are possible, along with a glaze of ice up to a tenth of an inch.
