ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Alaska’s commercial driving schools remain unaffected by a federal crackdown threatening to close nearly 7,500 training programs nationwide, state officials confirmed this week.
On Monday, the U.S. Department of Transportation released a federal notice stating training providers are now under review nationwide, citing various safety concerns. While the department’s list includes 22 companies with Alaska ties, none of those AK companies are actual truck driving programs.
“The Division of Motor Vehicles has been working with Alaska Commission of Postsecondary Education (ACPE) to ensure Alaska driving schools have everything required to meet federal standards,” said Forrest Wolfe, Alaska DOA’s Public Information Officer, in a statement. “No driving school signed up with Alaska DMV and listed on our website is impacted by this.”…
