Iditarod asking for blankets for 2026 Return Dogs

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Iditarod is already preparing to take care of the 2026 Return Dogs, and they could use the public’s help to do it.

Tracy Morrow, Iditarod Return Dog coordinator, said that since each musher begins with 16 dogs and has to finish with a minimum of five, the mushers have the opportunity to drop dogs during the race.

“When those dogs are dropped, they are then come into the Return Dog team for care. We have the medical side and we have the logistics side. On the logistics side, we provide straw as bedding, but we also want to provide cover for them, warmth, and one of the things that’s perfect is fleece blankets,” Morrow said…
