ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Greg Hartley calls himself a pedestrian by choice. The associate professor at UAA regularly makes the two-mile trek from his home in a neighborhood behind Tudor Bingo to the university campus. According to Hartley, that’s just a small part of the miles he puts in daily.
“I do about 54 miles a week, so that’s about 10 miles a day,” he said.
Hartley calls his walking “free cardio” and says it means he doesn’t have to pay for a gym membership. But while he gets great exercise and enjoys the outdoors, he admits his family worries about the risks of being a pedestrian in Anchorage, of which he is well aware…
