A recent Anchorage Daily News story announcing the shutdown of all Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska at the end of December has sparked concern on the Kenai Peninsula — but local officials say the two organizations are completely separate, and the club serving peninsula communities is financially healthy and operating normally.
The Anchorage-based chapter, which operates 21 statewide sites and child care centers, cited long-running financial shortfalls, funding delays, and reduced giving in its decision to close. That news prompted calls and messages from Peninsula families worried the same fate might be coming south.
