Two hikers were rescued from the Flattop area after one was injured chasing a dropped phone in freezing temperatures.
The hikers had been out longer than expected in single-digit temperatures while descending toward the Glen Alps parking lot. One of them dropped a phone and went off trail to retrieve it, sustaining an injury in the process.
They called AFD Dispatch for assistance. Crews from AFD Station 9 Southside, in coordination with Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group, located, extracted, and transported the hikers safely to a local hospital…
